Terms of Service

1. Definitions

• The Extension — the open-source Karafilt browser extension, released under the MIT License.
• The Backend Software— the open-source vocal-separation server, released under AGPL-3.0. You may run it yourself (“self-hosting”).
• The Service — the hosted offering we operate: the karafilt.com account site and our hosted AI backend that powers the Pro tier.
• We / us — Betania.io, the business registered in Serbia that operates the Service. (The open-source Extension and Backend Software also take contributions from the wider community; these Terms cover the hosted Service, not the open-source code.)
• You — the user of the Extension or the Service.

2. Open-source licenses

The Extension is free software released under the MIT License. The Backend Software is free software released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. You may use, modify, self-host, and redistribute them under the terms of those licenses. Nothing in these Terms restricts your rights under those licenses with respect to the software itself; these Terms govern your use of our hosted Service.

3. Accounts

• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
• Provide accurate information, verify your email, and keep your credentials secure.
• You are responsible for activity under your account.
• One account per person. Don't share an account or resell access to the Service.

4. Free trial

Every account can claim a one-time free trial of AI filtering whenever you like: once claimed, you get up to 1 hour of AI processing within 7 days, whichever runs out first. One trial per person. We may adjust trial limits for new users, and may revoke trials that are clearly being farmed (e.g. disposable-email account chains). When the trial ends, the free local filtering modes keep working — only the hosted AI modes require a subscription.

5. The Pro service

A paid subscription grants you access to the hosted AI backend (vocal separation) for personal, non-commercial use. The Service is provided as-is, with reasonable-effort uptime. No SLA. Fair use applies: the Service is sized for human listening sessions, not for bulk or automated processing.

6. Payment, billing, refunds

• Subscriptions are sold by Paddleas merchant of record. Paddle handles checkout, payment, VAT/sales tax, and invoices; Paddle's buyer terms apply to the purchase itself.
• Pricing: $3/month or $25/year (shown at checkout; subject to change with 30 days notice to existing subscribers).
• Subscriptions auto-renew until cancelled.
• You may cancel any time from your account page. Service continues until the end of the current billing period.
• Refunds within 14 days of payment, no questions asked. After 14 days, refunds are case-by-case.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use Karafilt for any activity that violates copyright or applicable law. Karafilt processes audio transiently for your personal listening; you are responsible for the audio you process and for complying with the terms of the sites you play it from.
• Attempt to probe, overload, or compromise the Service's infrastructure, or bypass trial/subscription enforcement (the software itself is open source — read it all you like).
• Generate abusive request volumes, share one account across many users, or otherwise interfere with other users' access.
• Use Karafilt to identify, harass, or stalk anyone.

8. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or revoke access to the Service for clear abuse, payment failure, or violation of these Terms. We'll notify you by email when reasonably possible. You may close your account at any time from the account page; we'll delete your personal data within 30 days except where law requires retention (e.g. billing records held by Paddle). Suspension of the Service never affects your rights to the open-source software.

9. Disclaimers

THE EXTENSION, THE BACKEND SOFTWARE AND THE SERVICE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or perfectly accurate.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY US DOLLARS. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim arising out of your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms, including reasonable legal fees.

12. Copyright (DMCA)

Karafilt does not host or store processed audio. If you nevertheless believe activity via Karafilt infringes your copyright, send a notice to legal@karafilt.com with the information required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3). We'll respond within 14 days.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be announced by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Serbia, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Serbia. Purchases themselves are governed by Paddle's buyer terms, as Paddle is the merchant of record.

15. Entire agreement

These Terms (together with the Privacy Policy and, for the software, the MIT and AGPL-3.0 licenses) are the entire agreement between you and us. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
